Year 9 Update - Summer 1

Year 9 students have had a brilliant start to the final term of the academic year and we are really proud of their achievements. There has been lots of exciting work going on in school, from careers to STEM events and it has been wonderful to reflect on some of these as part of this update

Rewards and Recognition
We are incredibly proud that our Year 9 students have over 58,000 reward points!
Congratulations to the top 10 students in Year 9:

Curriculum
Students have explored a range of topics as part of our tutor time curriculum this half term. Students started the term by exploring careers and had the opportunity to write their own CV; an important skill as they start to think about applying for weekend jobs and their future pathways.

Towards the end of term, there has been an exciting build up to the King’s Coronation which is detailed further below. Our fantastic Year 9 Charity and Community Leaders and Marketing Leaders, have been busy creating lots of bunting to decorate the Student Services and Canteen areas in school. It was wonderful to see our students working within their Colleges, and across year group, to do this.

King’s Coronation Celebrations!
NLS staff and students enjoyed preparing for the King’s Coronation Celebrations. In the week leading up to the Coronation, as part of tutor time, students engaged in sessions to learn more about the Coronation and a competition for the best decorated tutor classroom launched.

The winners are below:

Ist - 8MR02

2nd - 9CT01

3rd - 10 BD02

Our Coronation Bake Off took place on Friday 5th May. We were so pleased to have received a large number of entries from students in all year groups and staff. All students who entered, and showed real commitment to our school community, have received R4s. There was a real buzz in the courtyard at break time when the cakes were sold to raise money for The Prince’s Trust. We are so proud that our students raised over £200 for this fantastic charity! Thank you to all of our parents/carers who supported their child in engaging with this. It was really hard for the judges to choose the winning entries and were genuinely so impressed with the baking skills of our NLS students.

Oliver Baldry in Year 7 was crowned the winner based on this creativity and originality! A massive well done to all of the entries.

We hope the winning tutor group and Oliver enjoy their prize of an afternoon tea in tutor time today.

Thank You

Thank you for the on-going support of your child this half term. We now look forward to the final half term of Year 9. As a reminder, please do support us in ensuring your child has the correct uniform each day so that we can keep standards high until the end of the school year.
Next half term will see some exciting opportunities for Year 9 students, including the Alton Towers Reward Trip, Sports Day and Race for Life.
We hope that you and your families have a wonderful bank holiday and that the students enjoy a restful half term. We look forward to seeing the students return for the final half term.
