Year 11 Update - Summer 1

It has been fantastic to see how Year 11 students have begun the GCSE summer exam season, where they have conducted themselves with great maturity during this demanding period. I continue to wish students all the very best with the remainder of their exams, and look forward to celebrating with them on our Celebration Day in July and on GCSE results day in August.

Celebration Day

When all exams are over, on Monday 8 July, for the majority of students, we have the Celebration Day, which will include activities in school for part of the day and the Prom in the evening. This is a very special day and something to look forward to. Students invited will be able to meet with their peers and the staff that have supported them over the past few years and sign shirts. Students will also be able to collect their NLS Hoodie and Year Book, if these have been ordered. Leavers Hoodies can be ordered up until June 7 directly from Stitch-Tech (here). The Celebration Day activities in school will begin at 10:30am and will finish at 12:15pm.

Tickets are available to purchase on ParentPay for students to attend / invited to the Year 11 Prom, taking place at Chesford Grange. Tickets are £35 and are available to purchase until Friday 31 May 2024. The event will begin at 7pm.

Should we have any concerns regarding a student’s behaviour either prior to or in the time between signing up to the Prom, then students will be withdrawn from the Prom and individual parents will be notified accordingly. Consent to your child attending the prom will need to be given via ParentPay along with a request for emergency contact details, medical information, and dietary/allergy requirements. We have selected a buffet menu for the evening and it is important that you make us aware of any dietary requirements by answering the questions on ParentPay. There will be suitable vegetarian and vegan options available and all dietary information will be displayed on the evening.

Passport to the Prom

A reminder that students need to return their completed Passport to the Prom by Friday 7 June at the latest to the box in student services.

GCSE Results Day

GCSE results day is on Thursday 22 August 2024. Results will be available to collect between 9am and 10am. Students must collect their own results and for any students not able to attend, they will be e-mailed to their school e-mail address later that day.

Members of staff will be on hand to both celebrate with students and to support as required with any post-results queries.

On results day, we will also be enrolling students to the Sixth Form; more information regarding this will be sent by the Sixth Form Team in due course.

Exam certificates arrive in school in December and are posted out to the address we currently have. If you move address before December 2024, can you please inform exams@northleamington.co.uk, so we can ensure certificates are dispatched to the right address.

Student Lockers

Careers Opportunity

We’re delighted that the majority of students have completed applications for post-16 education, training and employment and have received offers for September.

Students can make and accept as many College or Sixth Form places as they wish. However, there are also other opportunities available and we will continue to alert parents/carers to them.

Currently, the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust have an Admin Level 2 Apprenticeship and a Learning and Development Assistant Trainer Level 3 Apprenticeship for students. These have a salary of £12,514 and £22,816 respectively so please do encourage your child to look at the flyers that are attached to this communication. Details can also be found on the Carres Tab of the website under  Future Pathways

Induction

For students with a conditional offer to join North Leamington School’s Sixth Form, a reminder that the Induction Day is Thursday 11 July.

During this day, students will have an opportunity to meet the Sixth Form Team and their prospective peers, experience taster lessons and team building activities. They will also be able to orientate themselves around some of the dedicated the Sixth Form areas.

We will send more details out nearer the event – we look forward to seeing students there.

Uniform Donations

After the Celebration Day on 8 July, when Year 11 students no longer require their NLS uniform, we would be grateful for any donations of uniform to the school to support younger students who may need to borrow an item. Our reception staff are available to receive any good quality, clean items.

As the penultimate half term of student’s journey at NLS comes to an end, I would like to take this opportunity for all of your support over the past few years. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you to support your child and I look forward to seeing what they achieve through all of their hard work over the past five years. Whilst students are officially on study leave, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of your child’s teachers if there is anything you feel we can do to support your child further.

I wish all parents, carers and students a wonderful half term break.
