Year 10 Update - Summer 1

Year 10 have had an incredibly productive and positive half term. Following the Easter break, students returned to school with a strong sense of purpose and enthusiasm. The recent History trip was a real highlight and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part. A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone involved in making it such a success.
Back in school, students reached an important milestone in their GCSE journey by sitting their first formal GCSE examinations in Religious Education on 12 and 20 May. This marked a significant step in Key Stage 4 and the maturity shown by Year 10 throughout the process has been exceptional.
In the lead-up to the exams, students demonstrated excellent commitment to revision and preparation. Their resilience, organisation and determination were clear to see, and they approached the experience with a very positive mindset. On the day of the examinations themselves, students conducted themselves calmly and maturely, showing real focus and professionalism throughout.
We are extremely proud of the way Year 10 have embraced this challenge so far. Their attitude and work ethic have highlighted exactly what they are capable of achieving when they fully apply themselves. We very much hope that their efforts will be reflected in really strong outcomes.
A reminder that students will sit their final GCSE RE paper on Islam on the first day back after half term, Monday 1st June 2026, during the afternoon session. All students have been provided with an Islam revision booklet to support their preparation. In addition, a detailed revision PowerPoint with teacher voice notes is available on Go4Schools and on the Digital Learning Hub to help students revise independently over the half term break.
GCSE Results Day – Year 10
GCSE Results Day will take place on Thursday 20 August. Students will be able to collect their results from school between 9:30am and 10:30am. Results can only be collected by the student themselves. Any results not collected in person will be posted home on the same day.

Year 10 Work Experience
We hope students are looking forward to their work experience placements, which begin on Monday 8 June and run for one week. This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience of the workplace, develop valuable skills and knowledge, and build confidence for their future pathways. Work experience is also highly beneficial when applying for further education courses, training opportunities and future employment.
Students have attended an online assembly with Mrs Barley-Morey, outlining the next steps and are now expected to contact their placement provider as soon as possible to confirm arrangements, including:
- Appropriate work wear
- Placement start and finish times
- Lunch arrangements
During the assembly, students were also informed that they will be required to complete a work diary during their placement week.
If you have any questions regarding work experience, please contact the Careers Team at careers@northleamington.co.uk We are extremely grateful to the many employers who continue to support our students, with around 200 organisations offering placements again this year.
Tutor Curriculum
This half term’s tutor programme and PSHE curriculum have continued to support both academic progress and personal development. Students were given feedback following their student voice contributions, helping them to recognise the impact of their views within school life.
Alongside their examination preparation, students have spent time exploring a range of revision strategies to help them identify the techniques that work best for them as individual learners. Through tutor sessions, students have looked at methods such as retrieval practice, revision timetables, flashcards, knowledge organisers and peer quizzing, whilst also discussing the importance of maintaining balance and setting realistic goals. Tutors have worked closely with students to help them develop effective study habits and build confidence ahead of the Progression Exams in June. We have been incredibly impressed with the maturity, effort and determination shown by Year 10 throughout this process, and it is clear that students are doing everything they can to prepare themselves for success.
In addition, students attended assemblies focused on motivation, resilience and commitment as they continue through this important stage of Year 10. Tutor activities have also included literacy development, online safety, alongside careers education and preparation for work experience placements taking place next half term. These sessions are designed to ensure students feel informed, confident and fully prepared for the opportunities ahead.
Next term, alongside academic preparation, tutor time will continue to explore important themes including mental health, emotional literacy and wellbeing strategies. These sessions play an important role in supporting students holistically as they navigate the challenges of modern life and prepare for their GCSE courses.
NLS College Cup
This half term we have launched our new College Cup competition, which has been introduced to students through tutor time and assemblies. It encompasses all of the College events and scoring systems that we run in school.
The College Cup is designed to celebrate and reward positive contribution, teamwork, and our CORE values across a wide range of areas including rewards, attendance, punctuality, charity events, competitions, Sports Day, and more.
Students have fed back to us that they want to feel more involved in their Colleges, and the College Cup will give them the perfect opportunity to do so. With so many ways to contribute, every student can play a part .
NLS Attendance World Cup 2026
Next half term, we are launching the NLS Attendance World Cup — an exciting new attendance competition inspired by this summer’s international football tournament. Building on the fantastic success of our recent Winning Streak initiative, we want to keep the momentum going and continue celebrating excellent attendance across the school.
Every tutor group will compete as part of the tournament, with tutor groups split into two groups within each year group. Weekly attendance scores will determine league positions during the opening “group stage”, with the top four tutor groups from each group progressing to the knockout quarter-finals. From there, it’s all to play for as tutor groups battle through the semi-finals and into the grand final to be crowned NLS Attendance World Cup 2026 Champions!
The challenge is designed to encourage strong routines and consistent attendance throughout the term, whilst adding a fun and competitive element linked to the excitement of the World Cup. Every week matters, and every day in school could make the difference between progressing or being knocked out of the competition. As an added incentive, the winning tutor groups will receive a Pizza Party during tutor time to celebrate their achievement.
We are looking forward to seeing which tutor groups rise to the challenge and whether your child’s tutor can go all the way to lift the trophy!
Student Leadership 2026-2027
We are delighted to share some exciting developments regarding student leadership opportunities for next half term. Congratulations to Claudia and David, who have been appointed as our new Senior Student Leaders, you can read more about them and their role further down in this bulletin in the Student Leadership section. We would also like to congratulate all students who have successfully secured positions as Assistant Senior Student Leaders across our different leadership strands.
In early June, leadership opportunities will open to students across the rest of the school, giving even more students the chance to play an active role within our school community. Students from each year group will be able to apply for leadership positions within a range of strands.
