Our Year 7 and Year 8 Football Teams Win Cup Finals

It has been another fantastic week for our football teams with the Year 8 team playing in the District Cup Shield Finals and the Year 7 team in the Mid & South Warwickshire Schools Cup Final with both teams winning!

After our Year 7 team secured the Division 1 title earlier in the season with an unbeaten record, attention turned to the season finale of the Mid & South Warwickshire Schools Cup Final against Stratford upon Avon School. A closely contested game ensued against the only team we had conceded to this season and the two teams could only be separated by Harry’s first half strike for NLS.

A well-organised NLS defence, marshalled by goalkeeper Joe, and the hard-working efforts of our midfield kept opposition chances to a minimum. As the game entered the latter stages, NLS had opportunities to extend their lead but had to settle for a 1-0 victory to conclude their unbeaten season, providing captain Hugh the opportunity to lift the second piece of silverware this season.

Congratulations to our Year 7 Football team on achieving the League and Cup Double!

Next up were our Year 8 team against Alcester Grammar School (AGS) in the District Shield Final. Having not played one another they did not know what to expect. With Blake at the helm he took the boys through the warm up and prep like a true leader, with help from his loyal vice-captain Ben.

The start of the game was really well fought and even, with great defence from both teams seeing off some dangerous attacks. Jonah, Ben, Stan and Harry stood strong in defence seeing off some great attacking through balls and over the top passes. The first goal came from an NLS corner from Blake, met with a header from Luca and went in off one of the AGS players  - NLS were  1-0 up!

AGS equalised after a well taken throw in and header – 1-1.

NLS attacked strongly with Jonah and Leo taking players on before super sub Jody scored from a corner - 2-1 NLS.

AGS were strong with their defenders playing with confidence at the back but struggled to get away from Danel.  Jonah made a great through ball pass to Oscar, who had come on moments before. He took his first chance very well and bagged the third goal - 3-1 to NLS.

The team played so well in a high-pressured game with a great attitude all the way – we are very proud of them.

Congratulations to all the players who have represented North Leamington School this season.
