About Us

We are a mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11-18 based in Royal Leamington Spa. We have a large and diverse student population and aim to be an inclusive school, offering an exciting and relevant curriculum, leading to excellent academic results and positive outcomes for all.

Vision and Values

We strongly believe in Commitment, Opportunity, Respect and Excellence for all and in all that we do.

CommitmentAll members of our community are committed to self-improvement, working to achieve both individual and collective goals so all are successful.

Opportunity: Individuals can develop their abilities and talents, and to be successful. We want everyone within our community to be nurtured, challenged, and encouraged to make the most of opportunities.

Respect: Everyone behaves in a respectful and kind way to others. Our school is an inclusive environment where all are valued equally.

Excellence: There is a commitment to excellence in all that we do. We have a culture of high expectations. We expect to do well, both as individuals and collectively.

Student support

At NLS we pride ourselves on the support we offer to our students’ wellbeing as well as their academic success. Students have frequent access to support within their year groups or via our Student Support & Engagement and Learning Support & Nurture teams. Lulu, our therapy dog, is a core member of the wellbeing team and provides endless cuddles and comfort for those students who need an additional boost. We also have a very strong Individual Educational Needs (IEN) Department, which coordinates personalisation for both SEND and high ability students.

Facilities

Our school has outstanding modern facilities based on the style of a university campus with separate buildings for each faculty: CORE (Maths, Science and English), Humanities, Performance, Individual Educational Needs (IEN), and the Sixth Form Centre, known as 'The Hub'. Importantly, these facilities, from the sports centre and the floodlit all-weather surfaces to the 315-seat theatre, also provide a much-needed resource for the local community.

Primary Links and Progression Links

We pride ourselves on the effectiveness of both our primary links and our further and higher education partnerships. We work closely with the primary schools in our ‘priority area’ and this has contributed to the rapid rise in our First Preferences.

We have strategic partnerships with a number of local Teaching School Alliances and Initial Teacher Education providers. We provide highly successful ITE placements, across a wide range of subjects, in association with Warwick University, Coventry SCITT, the Griffin Alliance and the Futures Trust. Our collaborative work with these partners not only supports our recruitment and retention strategy but also provides a number of opportunities to further the professional development offer for our staff. It also provides opportunities for our staff to work collaboratively with staff from other schools and to contribute to the delivery of high quality CPD across the Central Warwickshire and Coventry area.
