Football Success -Year 9 Win District Cup Final and Year 11 Finalists

We are delighted to share the success of our Year 9 and 11 football teams who both reached the District Cup Finals which took place last night – Wednesday 15 April amid thunder, lightning, and torrential rain over the Ajax Central pitches,

NLS 5 - 2 Alcester Grammar

Our Year 9 team faced Alcester Grammar school and the game opened in dramatic fashion, with the first goal crashing in from a free kick from 20 yards and George then doubling the lead with a fine volley into the top corner.

Alcester pulled a goal back of deflection upon deflection leaving it 2-1 at half time, before captain Fin powered home a drive after strong work from Ed. NLS added a crisply taken penalty before an immediate response from Alcester's impressive left winger.

With seven minutes left on the clock the referee called a 20 minute break in play due to lightning with the score at 4-2.

After the break Year 8's outstanding Max marshalled the excellent NLS defence and with one minute remaining George added a fifth to rain-soaked celebrations. Fourteen incredible young men who absolutely wore their NLS hearts on their drenched sleeves.

A huge well done to all the boys who played in the final and well done to all the boys who have represented the school teams at Football this season.

The Year 11 team reached their first ever school cup final against Studley. On the night Studley proved to be the stronger team and ran out 4 nil winners. North Leamington conceded 3 goals in the first half playing against a strong wind, and this proved to be the difference.

The second half was a far more even affair, although the stormy weather resulted in the game being paused for 20 minutes and Studley scored late on to make it 4-nil.

On the night the better team won, but well done to all the team and special mention for Joel and Alex who were excellent on the night.

Congratulations to all the boys that played in the final and the previous rounds on route to reaching the final.
