Celebrating World Book Day

It was wonderful to see so many members of our school community embracing the spirit of the day with enthusiasm and creativity.

This year, NLS truly stepped into the world of literature, following the English Department down the Yellow Brick Road, while other departments brought a range of beloved stories to life.

Classroom walls display charts, graphs, and colourful bulletin boards with educational content, indicating a learning or awareness activity.Science ventured into the arena as The Hunger Games tributes, Reception and IEN stepped into the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland, and Maths set sail with the pirates of Treasure Island.

We were also delighted to spot The Cat in the Hat roaming  Drama’s rendition of Where’s Wally, and the appearance of Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men from the PE department joining the adventure.

Costumes include Queen of Hearts, Alice, Cheshire Cat, and Mad Hatter holding a large Ace of Diamonds card and a pocket watch, with a sign reading "We're All Mad Here" featuring characters from the story. Photograph of five people standing in front of a green wall with a "Physical Education" sign, dressed in colourful costumes including two individuals wearing cardboard signs labelled "BEN" and "BILL." Group features bright yellow, green, and black clothing with accessories of gloves, tutus, and apron.

Students were equally immersed in the celebrations, enjoying a variety of literary-themed activities throughout the day. In English lessons, students competed in a lively Book Riddle Quiz, racing to solve clues and claim a well-earned chocolate prize.

During tutor time, the fun continued with a series of engaging challenges, including guessing book titles through emojis, deciphering quirky and imaginative blurbs, and testing their literary knowledge in creative and entertaining ways.

World Book Day at NLS was once again a joyful celebration of reading, imagination, and storytelling — a reminder of the magic that books bring to our community.
