To reach the final, each team have played a series of matches in the Warwickshire league, with group rounds and then a semi final to win their place in the final. It was an exciting evening of netball, played in glorious sunshine.

An audience of over 300 people enjoyed a diverse and engaging programme, featuring performers from Year 7 to Year 11. The evening celebrated the hard work of Dance Club members, Dance Leaders, and students studying Dance as part of their curriculum.

A wide range of styles was performed, including Contemporary, Commercial, Jazz and Tap. The programme included BTEC assessment pieces, extracurricular routines and students’ own choreography, highlighting the creativity and commitment of all involved

During the day, students explored how domestic electrical energy is supplied, from generation through to delivery in the home gaining insight into the journey from production to delivery.

Acting as engineers, working collaboratively in teams, they created prototypes of renewable technologies such as wind turbines, water turbines, or solar panels, and planned how electricity would be transmitted from the source to homes.

Teams also considered the overall costs of their designs and presented their solutions to others showcasing their ideas and problem-solving approaches.

Students were invited to bring in ‘Red Nose Day’ themed cakes which were then available to buy at break time for 50p each.

This year, NLS truly stepped into the world of literature, following the English Department down the Yellow Brick Road, while other departments brought a range of beloved stories to life. 

Science ventured into the arena as The Hunger Games tributes, Reception and IEN stepped into the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland, and Maths set sail with the pirates of Treasure Island.

We were also delighted to spot The Cat in the Hat roaming  Drama’s rendition of Where’s Wally, and the appearance of Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men from the PE department joining the adventure.

The many MPs at the event were very impressed with the work we are all doing. Uma Kumaran, the MP hosting the event, commented in her key note speech that this work brings hope in an uncertain and turbulent world.

The International School award is a prestigious accreditation and benchmarking scheme recognising schools that embed a global dimension into their curriculum, fostering cultural understanding and international awareness. As part of this we work with our partner school in India and our curriculum-based work helps to prepare students as global citizens.

During the day, students explored the evolution of communication before diving into cryptology, where they tackled a code-cracking challenge using a themed newspaper, The Technology Times. They then put their engineering and programming skills to the test by designing, building, and coding a LEGO dial-lock safe, learning how digital security systems work in real life.

The day concluded with students working in teams to create and pitch their own cybersecurity company, demonstrating creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and digital literacy.

It was a fantastic experience that gave students a real insight into future careers in technology and cybersecurity and we are proud of the enthusiasm, focus, and innovation they showed throughout the day.

In small groups, students were able to ask a range of questions to our guests to learn about the opportunities that are available and gain further insight into what their next steps post Year 11 could be.  Students received a booklet beforehand to record the information that they were able to find out at the event and will be using this to update their careers journey on Grofar our careers platform.

This was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with representatives from a wide selection of companies and a range of universities and local colleges.

We are very grateful to all those who supported our event and the feedback from our students showed they really enjoyed the event which will help them in making informed decisions going forward in relation to their post-16 career journey.

It was lovely to see and see so many students and staff embracing the festive spirit and fantastic to see such great participation from our students.

Donations of £1 have raised £579 so far.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, at any level, is not easy. It takes effort, determination, and the resilience to overcome obstacles. The Award epitomises our CORE values: Commitment, Opportunity, Respect and Excellence. To have so many students completing their awards this year is truly fantastic. We also recognised and thanked the NLS staff who have supported with training, route-planning and the many weekends they dedicated to the expeditions.

The event was an opportunity for us to provide all Year 11 students with the valuable experience of taking part in an interview and for them to receive personalised feedback from it as part of our careers education programme to support them as they prepare for the world beyond school.

During the interview, students were also able to receive feedback on the CV they had produced during previous Tutor Time sessions.

It would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our Fair Trade Leaders, whose enthusiasm and example have inspired the whole school to get involved. Through class projects, assemblies, and whole-school initiatives, we have deepened our knowledge of Fairtrade and taken meaningful steps toward creating a fairer, more sustainable future. We look forward to building on this achievement and continuing our journey as a Fairtrade-aware school.

With over 70 students taking part it was fantastic to see every year group represented during the concert, creating a sense of unity and celebration of the hard work and dedication of our young musicians.

The programme featured a rich mix of genres including those students have studied in lessons such as Rock and Roll Music, classical music pieces such as Debussy’s Arabesque performed by Amelie on the piano and two stunning  solos,  I Dreamed a Dream from Emily and Once upon a December  from Clea.

The concert also included several band items with some classic pop pieces such as Don’t Look Back In Anger and Supersonic by Oasis.

Our Sixth Form Music students closed the show this year with wonderful renditions of Somebody To Love by Queen and a festive favourite Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens.

The music department are extremely proud of all our talented young musicians involved with extra-curricular music at NLS.

Head Teacher Mr Lowdell, opened the ceremony with an address to the school followed by a Remembrance poem read by Senior Student Leaders, Jimmy and Amelia. The Last Post and Reveille were played before the whole school observed a two-minute silence whereby our cadet students then laid a wreath at our memorial.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world. It involved submitting a detailed application that demonstrates the breadth and depth of our International Schools projects across NLS.

Students attended over three days last week with their Tutors in their Colleges, which also gave them an opportunity to build relationships within their Tutor Group.

Students had the chance to handle a range of exotic animals, with many facing their fears to hold bearded dragons, corn snakes and giant snails, among other animals and insects as well as  learning about special adaptations these creatures have developed and the habitats in which they live.

They explored the glass houses collecting clues to find out more rainforest plants and environments and explored  the gardens.

We look forward to meeting you. 

Students were invited to wear a yellow accessory alongside their usual NLS uniform to raise awareness and funds for this important cause.

In addition, we held a cake sale during break time, and students could either bake or donate cakes for the event.

We added a donation option to our ParentPay page, and we appreciate any contributions that parents and carers are able to make. Sixth Form students will be able to pay on the day by card in the Sixth Form areas.

We are delighted to have raised £860.  

As part of our focus on World Mental Health Day, students will receive guidance on how to support their own mental wellbeing and will be reminded of the resources and support available to them within the school.

The event itself was a brilliant showcase of community spirit. Students from Years 7–13 walked or ran laps around the school fields, aiming to complete as many circuits as possible within the hour. Everyone joined in the spirit of the occasion by wearing pink—whether it was socks, headbands, tutus or even face paint—creating a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere. Staff lined the course to cheer students on, with many also running alongside them.

Donations were collected both through sponsorships and individual contributions, with some students managing to complete more than five laps.

The enthusiasm, energy and determination on display were inspiring, and it was fantastic to see the whole school working together towards such an important cause.

We are delighted to announce that, thanks to the generosity of our students, staff and wider community, we raised an incredible £2647 for Cancer Research.

This year’s impressive results include an overall pass rate of 99% whilst, 65% of all A Level grades achieved were A*-B.

Mike Lowdell (Headteacher) paid testimony to all involved: "Whatever the destination, we know that the concerted efforts of all will mean that these students will be well-equipped to be a success in their next step. As always we are so proud of our students' efforts, we wish them all the luck in their future endeavours.

NLS will have representation at both Oxford and Cambridge universities in 2025 and the whole community extends its congratulations to Luke and Oliver! A number of students are taking up prestigious apprenticeships with local and national employers while the vast majority of students have successfully secured their preferred university choices. NLS students are set to embark on a diverse range of degree courses in subjects as varied as Psychology, Midwifery, Textile Design, History, Biomedical Science, Maths, Law, Philosophy, Zoology. All of this and more will be undertaken at more local organisations (e.g. Warwick, Coventry) or more further afield (e.g. Cardiff, Durham, Exeter, York).

The Year 11 Celebration Day started in the morning with the opportunity for students to come together to all meet again and sign shirts before enjoying their Leavers Assembly in the theatre looking back over their time at North Leamington School.    

Their Leavers assembly included: inspirational words and messages from teachers, reflected on their journey, recognitions for achievements and contributions to school life along with student and teacher awards.

As part of their enrichment journey, the cast were also fortunate to work with John Jones, a director from the Royal Shakespeare Company, in a special workshop held on Wednesday 4 June. This unique opportunity allowed students to refine their performance skills and deepen their understanding of the play’s themes and characters.

It was lovely to talk about the past few years and to look forward to the future: whether university, apprenticeships, employment or a well-earned gap year awaits. After two brief yet glorious speeches of undoubted high-quality, students and staff alike enjoyed some great food in a great setting – with so many staff as well as students there, the mood was a nice blend of relaxed yet vibrant. Students were able to access the beautiful garden and veranda on what was a very warm evening as well as the tasteful dining room with its well-packed dance floor. The moves on display from students and staff alike was testimony to what terrific relationships and teamwork exist in the NLS Sixth Form. Behaviour was impeccable and it was a real privilege to be part of such a terrific send-off.

Students were nominated in each year group based on their outstanding contributions at a Faculty level (CORE, Humanities and Performance), to their Year Group and Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Students were recognised for their outstanding contributions for their leadership in Careers, in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, as well as our Eco and the International Schools programmes.

They had planned questions in advanced that they had really considered and thought about.

It was an excellent discussion, and our student leaders were super ambassadors for the school. 

It promises to be a truly enjoyable evening as our talented musicians perform a variety of summer-themed pieces playing a range of instruments. Over sixty students from all year groups have been working hard and look forward to entertaining you with their performances that will range from solos to large ensembles and will include our Pop Choir, Wind Band, Steel Pans and String Group.

Forty-five students took part in this challenging event completing two rigorous online quizzes requiring both deep knowledge and the ability to think critically under pressure. They all demonstrated fantastic resilience, enthusiasm, and confidence, embracing the opportunity to challenge themselves testing their understanding of Physics in a new and exciting way.

We arrived in Iceland and visited Grindlevik, our first port of call, to see the deserted town due to the recent volcanic activity. Houses, churches, sports centres all deserted and we felt the sorrow of the townsfolk.

With a fancy dress theme of famous characters (literary, historical, TV or film-based), we celebrated all the things our students have achieved during their time with us and all the many wonderful plans they have going forward.

The students were a credit to the school  from the moment we boarded our Virgin Atlantic flight and were excitable and full of energy for the days ahead. Their enthusiasm never waned, as we walked an average of 30,000 steps a day – always with a smile on their faces.

New York offered a feast of experiences, and the highlights were as impressive as the skyline itself. We marvelled at the city from the top of the Empire State Building at night, the dazzling lights creating a memory that will stay with us for a lifetime. The Top of the Rock gave us another breathtaking view – this time looking out over Central Park and the Empire State itself, a perfect opportunity for some iconic photos.

The finals took place on Wednesday 9 April and our Year 7 team hoped to follow to success of last year's Yr 7 team and bring home a trophy in their first season and year 9 hoped to repeat the success of our teams for the previous three years and win the cup again for NLS

I had the pleasure of accompanying twelve of our students to visit our partner school, Anjuman I’Islam Girls High School, in Mumbai, India. We were able to secure £20 000 from the Turing Grant in order to significantly subsidise this trip. 

We had a fantastic week taking part in lessons, playing sport and learning about single use plastic and AI. Our students really enjoyed working alongside the students at our partner school and learning all about their lives.  As their school day finishes at 12.30, after lunch, we visited many of the sites in Mumbai including the planetarium, Elephanta caves, Crawford market, the Nehu museum and Prince of Wales museum.

The students had a fantastic time and this is how they described the experience:

An audience of over 200 were treated to a range of styles by students across Years 7 to 13  who are members of our Dance Club, Dance Leaders and those who study Dance.
There were a range of styles performed including Contemporary, Commercial, Jazz, Tap and Ballet from BTEC assessment work to extracurricular clubs and students’ own choreographed pieces and their dedication and passion were evident in every routine. 

All the dancers involved, along with our student photographer in Year 10 and student backstage crew, were so professional and enthusiastic during the show. 

It was fantastic to see all their hard work and creativity come to light in the performance.

Starting in Tutor Time, students will have the opportunity to run or walk a marked out route of our school  field. Students can come into school in their NLS PE kit and NLS blazer on Friday and can wear a pink accessory and remember to bring a water bottle.

This event has been rescheduled from its original date of Friday 27 September when we unfortunately had to cancel due to the weather. 

The aim of  'Your Vote Week' is to support young people to have the knowledge they need to get involved in democracy and elections – in particular, to use their vote. This year’s theme is: “get informed and get involved”.
This entails accessing trustworthy information to get informed about politics, democracy and elections, and taking the first steps to get involved locally. At NLS, we have:

• Offered coverage of Electoral Commission resources in Tutor Time
• Students experienced an assembly from the Local Authority around using the vote available to them now (as 18 year olds) or soon (as that landmark age approaches)
• A poster campaign (with QR codes linked to information bases)
• Linked Matt Western’s visit to this drive for political involvement from our students
• Continued to entrust our Student Leaders with collaborative projects aimed at enhancing student voice in the Sixth Form and the wider school

On Thursday we welcomed Steve, Harriet and Emily who gave a terrific assembly to Sixth Form students on the vitality of using their vote and ended the session with a mock vote on whether the age of voting in England should be lowered to 16 – to follow suit with other home nations and to better correspond with the ability to marry, pay taxes or be involved in the armed forces at that age!

There were three days of adventurous activities including assault courses, team games, the zip wire, and campfires. Each activity session was designed to build confidence, communication, teamwork, leadership, and certainly pushed students out of their comfort zones. It was lovely to see the Year 7 students growing in confidence and as a team. The way the students encouraged each other to challenge themselves was fantastic to see. 

As a member of Youth Parliament (MYP), Kaddy’s role is to positively represent the views of children and young people in the Local Authority in the national UK Youth Parliament (UKYP). An important part of their role is attending the House of Commons Sitting in London. This is a unique opportunity as MYPs are the only group, other than MPs, permitted to sit on the green benches
