  • Alex showcases the Boogie Woogie Stomp on Radio 2

    Published 09/02/22

Alex Clay in Year 9 was invited to perform on Zoe Ball's Radio 2 Show this morning (9 February ) as part of her Alternative Piano Room Month. Normally only celebrities get to showcase their piano skills live on the radio but this month, Zoe asked listeners to contact her if they could play the piano. A video of Alex playing 'Boogie Woogie Stomp', which he performed on a visit to St Pancras Station with his parents, persuaded the show producers to invite him to play it on the show.

Alex has piano lessons but is mainly self-taught and teaches himself new pieces via YouTube tutorials or simply improvisation.

  • Y7 Whitemoor Lakes residential trip

    Published 30/01/22

Year 7 trip to Whitemoor Lakes Adventure Centre in Lichfield, Staffordshire

    1-3 April 2022

Outdoor adventure school residential trips are an excellent way to enhance learning and build upon foundations learnt in the classroom. They also allow young people to develop their skillset and try a range of exciting activities, such as kayaking, climbing and problem-solving. Overcoming new challenges and working collectively as a team can help improve students’ relationships with their peers and foster better relations with teaching staff. Spending time away from home in an unfamiliar environment can bolster self-confidence and help instil problem-solving skills and a sense of independence.

Students will take part in a range of activities, including open canoeing, raft building, zip wire and archery plus evening events. These activities are led by Whitemoor’s own team of qualified instructors. Each activity has its own risk assessment. Our aim is for the students to have fun, learn new skills, become more motivated as individuals, to take part in new and enriching experiences, discover more about themselves and their capabilities and to learn to support value and celebrate each other’s success.

In order to run the trip, we will require a minimum of 120 students to attend.

  • International School Democracy Project

    Published 30/11/21

Our fantastic International School Leaders have been working on a project all about Democracy in the UK and abroad with our partner school in India. They met with the students at Anjuman Islamic Girls School in Mumbai over Zoom and were able to have a brilliant discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of democracy here and abroad.

We were so impressed by the maturity and insight our students demonstrated in both asking and answering questions. They then, very bravely, presented their findings to both Year 7 and 8 via a whole school assembly.

During our tutor sessions this term, students have had the opportunity to learn about the conflict in Syria and reflect on the refugee crisis worldwide. They have responded by writing letters as a tutor group to child refugees around the world.

  • NLS does the X Factor for Children in Need

    Published 07/11/21

On Friday 12 November, 21 brave staff volunteers overcame their nerves to perform in front of over 300 students at North Leamington School as part of ‘NLS does the X Factor’. The event was to raise money for Children in Need, a charity the school has supported through similar events for 18 years.

Staff put on a range of acts including Amy Winehouse, Abba, Bruno Mars and more and each act was judged by a small team of experts (Student Leaders) based on their performance, stage presence, costumes and crowd interaction.

Overall, the event raised £786.21, which is a fantastic amount for the charity.

Debby Hill, Performance Faculty Leader at North Leamington School said of the occasion:

“It was a delight to see so many staff volunteer to take part in this event to raise money for Children in Need. The students loved seeing their teachers and other school staff let their hair down to sing and dance and more often than not, make a fool of themselves! We are always proud to support Children in Need and this year felt even more special after a year of not being able to have face-to-face events like this.”
