During the years of 9-11 students continue to study the core subjects and choose some additional subjects to take at GCSE level or BTEC

Y9 – key tier 2 vocabulary learning

Maths

1 piece of work consolidating what has been learnt in lessons that week.  One piece of work (the FAR) which goes over key points in the unit, with exam style questions and prior learning.

Frequency: All have Home Learning once per week, with a FAR Home Learning on average twice per module.

Science

Home Learning mainly consists of past paper questions. Additionally, 6 mark questions set are teacher marked. This is coupled with the engagement of premade revision resources in preparation for end of unit assessments.

Frequency: Unit lengths vary across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Every third lesson involves a Home Learning task.

Extra home learning challenges:

  • A3 revision sheets for every unit in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to help refresh the science understanding.
  • To compliment this, the science knowledge mats (available for each unit in Chemistry, Biology and Physics) can also be used alongside to support.

History

  • Pre-reading or exam style questions
  • Revision activities to develop long-term memory. This will include current and inter-leaving activities.
  • Revision for in-class assessments and mock exams, focused on previous learning.
  • Where applicable, there will be activities to consolidate class-work.

Frequency: Once per fortnight

Extra home learning challenges:

  • Revision topics on portal covering all units. This includes multiple choice quizzes, flash cards and plans for the full range of exam questions.
  • These can be used to consolidate topics being studied in class and previously taught units. This is important as all assessments include current learning and previously taught units.
  • There are Kahoot quizzes for all units in paper from on portal and using the App. Search: Mr Bowker KS4 ,or ask Mr Bowker for a code.

Y11

  • Revision topics on portal covering all units. This includes multiple choice quizzes, flash cards and plans for the full range of exam questions.
  • Students will always be working towards an assessment, end of unit exam or a mock exam, which makes revision essential.

Geography

Y9-Y11 – A range of home learning types which include activities to consolidate class work, e.g. completion of exam style questions and completion of worksheets.

Production of a revision resource in preparation for end of topic test. This will also include production of a revision resource from a previous topic to act as interleaving.

Y11 – In addition to the above year 11 will also have a revision calendar provided before mocks and in the run up to summer exams to complete 3 weekly revision tasks.

Frequency:  Y9 – At least one piece per fortnight. Y10/11 – one piece per week

Modern Foreign Languages

Grammar exercises, translation,  vocabulary learning,  exam style questions

 Writing, reading, listening and speaking tasks could be set, one skill and vocab learning using a website such as Quizlet, GCSE Bitesize and Active Learn.

  • Use the blue vocab books to revise across all topics using flashcards or Quizlet, Duolingo or Memrise.
  • Finding articles of interest on yahoo.de (German), yahoo.fr (French) , es.yahoo (Spanish) such as your favourite hobby or sports / footballers / clubs / celebrity news.
  • CPG Revision resources
  • Use the grammar criteria for each TG and the Student Guide to revise or learn a new concept for the next TG.

  • Put a radio/music system in the kitchen, Listen to the Radio/YouTube/IPod as you cook as a Family. Take turns in choosing the music - make conversation based on musical aspects (melody, instruments, tempo, meaning of the lyric)
  • Research a song/artist/genre and  tell your family about it 
  • Talk about how music is used in movies you watch 
  • Who was your favourite band member – what instrument do they play?

  • Include Grandparents and ask what they listened to and what was the music like they listened to and what their thoughts were when they heard the music of the 70s/80s

Art
