At North Leamington School we have a fabulous team who support students with a range of additional needs. Our facilities and resources are extensive, and we are very proud of our provision. The IEN (Individual Educational Needs) Faculty team of Learning Support and Nurture provision staff provide teachers and students with advice, help and support to enable all students to learn effectively. We work closely with specialist SEND teachers, speech and language therapist, educational psychologists, occupational therapists, physios and other professionals.

All interventions are tailored to individual need and are based on a graduated four-part cycle (assess, plan, do, review). Through this cycle, actions are reviewed and refined as understanding of a student's needs and the support required to help them secure good outcomes increases. Parent and student view is always important to us in planning our provision and support for our students.

We have been really pleased about our son’s start to secondary education at North Leamington School. The Learning Support and Nurture team, along with all staff, have created a positive and safe learning experience which means he is thriving. The school has been brilliant at working in partnership with us (the parents), as well as my son who feels supported and listened to during each school day. 

Since my daughter joined NLS in September, she has become a confident and happier student. Her understanding of her school work has improved massively as has her grades. The teachers and staff offer a wide range of help and support to my daughter
as well as myself.  Any issues or concerns are dealt with immediately and thoroughly. The school has met all her SEN needs and gone above and beyond to make sure she feels supported. She attends a homework club after school with SEN staff, which has helped immensely with making her time at home happier. I was so worried about my daughter starting secondary school after such a terrible experience in primary school, but I finally feel confident that she is in a school where she is cared for and can thrive. 

My daughter was very anxious about moving to secondary school but within weeks of her starting it was clear the key staff had got to know her extremely well through the transition process and were able to help her feel safe and able to learn. They treat her as an individual and have altered her timetable to focus on areas she needs more help with and have included nurture sessions that are a great benefit to her.

The communication between us and school has been excellent and any queries or problems are quickly dealt with. Above all we feel that they understand her and the needs she has which gives us confidence that they will support her in reaching her maximum potential throughout her school life and beyond.

Overall, we have been very happy with our son’s experience at NLS. The SEND team have been fantastic and could not have offered a smoother transition for him He looks forward to his IEN sessions and I have found staff to be very approachable and helpful with any questions I have had.  

NLS have bought into an exciting approach to support all students ‘thrive’ whilst on their school journey. The Thrive Approach has evolved during the last 25 years, providing those who work with children and young people with the knowledge, skills and tools to optimise social and emotional development. Specific individual students at North Leamington School will be assessed by our Lead Practitioner and receive intervention as appropriate according to their action plan.
