Intent

Working collaboratively to develop a broad and balanced curriculum which cultivates all pupils’ enjoyment and appreciation of language and literature.

  • Become strong communicators through the core skills of reading, writing and oracy.
  • Develop an empathetic approach to different values, cultures and perspectives through the three core skills above, encouraging students to become conscientious individuals in society.
  • Giving students the opportunities to explore a wide range of texts, including poetry, and authors to develop their understanding of the world.
  • Develop the functional skills and knowledge students need for the world of work and further education.
  • Students will develop their analytical skills and their ability to create thoughtful and engaging non-fiction and fictional pieces of writing.
  • Develop imagination, self-expression and creativity. 

Media intent

We endeavour to help our pupils become discerning users of digital technologies who:

  • Can distinguish between reliable information and disinformation and misinformation so that they can be citizens who can engage with wider social debates in an informed way
  • Can ‘’think critically and click wisely” to mirror UNESCO’s position regarding the importance of media literacy, thereby maximizing the advantages and minimizing the harm of media  
  • Understand the social and historical contexts that produce and influence the content.
  • Develop a clear awareness of how the media influences, shapes, and defines their lives
  • Understand how media contributes significantly to the economic prosperity of the country and potential career paths
  • Develop the knowledge and skills to successfully prepare for GCSE and GCE examinations
