Pupil Premium

North Leamington School Pupil Premium Strategy Statement

Pupil Premium Statement Deecember 2023

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is funding allocated by central government to all schools in England. The amount of funding available for each school is calculated according to the number of 'Looked After', recently ‘Looked After’ and Free School Meals eligible students - as well as those who have a parent or parents who serve in the forces or who are in receipt of a forces pension. The grant was introduced in April 2011.

What is the purpose of Pupil Premium?

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between eligible children and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle perceived disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils. New measures are included in the performance tables that capture the achievement of those pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.

NLS welcomes information from parents and carers where their child has been adopted from the care of a Local Authority. This includes adoption resulting in a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangements Order. This will enable the school to receive Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) funding for their child.

Supporting Children Looked After (CLA) and Previously Looked After (CPLA)

The governing body of North Leamington School is committed to providing high quality education for all its students, based on equality of opportunity, access and outcomes.  The governing body recognises the need to champion performance for children looked after (CLA) and children previously looked after (CPLA) and is committed to improving outcomes for them. The designated teacher has a leadership role in promoting the educational achievement of every CLA and CPLA on the school’s roll. This involves working with the Virtual School to promote the education of CLA and CPLA and promoting a whole school culture where the personalised learning needs of these children matter and their personal, emotional and academic needs are prioritised. The Designated Teacher at North Leamington School is Ms H Jones, Deputy Headteacher.

Outcomes

We have a five year trend that we are very proud of. This places us well above the national average in terms of performance for students who attract PP funding and demonstrates what an inclusive, supportive school we are. These outcomes derive from the strategy noted elsewhere on this page but, primarily, from our commitment to ensuring excellence for all.
