Business Studies is an exciting multidisciplinary subject focusing on institutions and problems of the business world. The course is designed for students who have aspirations for a career in Accountancy, Marketing, Human Resources or Management. The subject content is designed to engage students through topics and issues that are relevant in today’s society, through key contemporary developments such as digital technology, business ethics and globalisation topics.

How is the course organised and assessed?

In Business Studies, the way students are taught varies from topic to topic but all topics involves discussions, presentations, investigation, and interpreting data. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions. All of these skills are very important for employment or further study. The course is examined in three papers, each two hours long. 
Paper 1 - Marketing, people, and global business (35% total mark)
Paper 2 - Business activities, decisions, and strategies (35% total mark)
Paper 3 - Investigating business in a competitive environment (30% total mark)

What's next?

Business Studies students have access to a wide range of career opportunities and many choose to go straight into employment after taking our A Level course, but, paired with other A Levels, Business Studies also opens the door to a wide range of university courses including Maths, Sociology, English, Psychology, Law, Government, and Politics.
