Year 7 Update - Summer Term

It has been a fabulous first year for Year 7 at North Leamington School. We have all seen in school the changes and growth that the year group has made and I hope that you have seen it at home too. During this last half term we have begun to talk about what it means to be in Year 8, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how the cohort grow into this new space as role models to the incoming Year 7s. Well done to Year 7 for all of their achievements so far, and they have only just begun their journey here at NLS.
Tutor Time Curriculum
This term’s Tutor Time Curriculum once again challenged our year 7s in thought provoking sessions on topics that truly matter to our young people. During this term, Year 7 have had the chance to give their feedback through student voice, which led to Form Representatives meeting with me and then our two Year Representatives going to Student Cabinet, run by our Senior Student Leaders from the Sixth Form. We have also engaged with Digital literacy sessions and had the opportunity to complete an International Schools Project, focusing on getting to know about Anjuman School, our partner school in Mumbai, as well as learning about single use plastic. PSHE sessions during this final half term have focused on puberty and body confidence, and have been managed sensitively by our team of Form Tutors. Well done to Year 7 on their engagement in Tutor Time!
Celebration Evening
Our annual Celebration Evening is always a big event in the school calendar. Students were nominated in each year group based on their outstanding contributions at a Faculty level (CORE, Humanities and Performance), to their Year Group and Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
Our guest speaker this year was Tim Anderson, who grew up in Leamington and went on to have a fascinating and varies career. Tim shared some words of advice accumulated from his experiences working with Piers Morgan, right the way through to a role at the BBC and his current one at the exam board OCR. It was a pleasure to have Tim join us and he offered some salient advice that we know our students will take to heart.
Congratulations to all the winners in Year 7, they were a credit to the school and the year group! I hope that they felt inspired by the fabulous achievements they could hear about from the students further up the school, it is a real opportunity to see how high they could climb in the future!
Summer Drama Performance & Summer Music Concert
Drama students from Years 7 to 10 dazzled us with their outstanding production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Full of comedy, creativity, and superb acting, the performance was a true testament to the talent and hard work of our young performers – a standing ovation well deserved!
It was lovely to see Year 7 students involved in the Summer Music Concert on July 8, full of confidence in their fantastic performances.
Maths Bee
Every year, Year 7 and 8 students compete in the North Leamington School Maths Bee for the glory of their College. This is a fabulous, high energy event which tests mathematical ability, combined with logic, team work and effort. The Year 7s gave a fantastic account of themselves and staff were blown away by their enthusiasm and problem solving.

Summer Rewards Event
This final week has seen our Summer Rewards Event. Well done to all those students who have earned so many reward points throughout the year, and well done in particular to those winners from this Summer Term.
Sports Day
Sports Day 2025 was a tremendous success, filled with energy, competition, and community spirit. This is of course the first time our year 7 students have had a chance to participate and they made all the difference! They participated with their customary enthusiasm and competitively!
The morning featured team events like football and dodgeball, while the afternoon saw individual athletics and the eagerly anticipated inter-College tug-of-war! Congratulations to all our participants – it truly was a day to remember.

Careers in Year 7 - Discovery
Our careers team are excited to share with you the career-focused activities that have been a part of our school's career education program for Year 7. Our vision is to support students in making informed choices about their futures and to provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the world of work.
Year 7 have been introduced to the world of careers through their Tutor Time and PHSE curriculum. Some of the careers based learning they have discovered about are:
- How manage their transition to secondary school (Grow through life.)
- What skills they have, how to develop their employability skillset and how to have a Growth mindset (Grow through life.)
- Rights and responsibilities in the work-place (Balance Life and Work.)
- How to make safe financial choices and budget (Balance Life and Work.)
- How to look after their mental health (Balance Life and Work.)
Year 7 have started to develop their understanding of Post 16 options and a range of different types of careers through:
- A post 16 careers event that focused on A levels and Apprenticeships hosted by an external provider from one of our local colleges.
- Their subject curricula where subject teachers have shared information and real-life stories of a range of careers and routes to those careers that link to their subject.
- A World of Work event where an employee from the Department of Work and Pensions shared the types of roles and routes for a range of departments within this sector.
We very much value parent/carer feedback on our careers provision and would be grateful if you would complete a short Careers Survey as soon as possible. Following our successful achievement of the Quality in Careers award, and the positive feedback from Ofsted, your feedback will help us in evaluating and continuing to improve our provision.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support throughout the year. I wish you all a safe, restful, and sunny summer. I look forward to welcoming our students back in September as Year 8s, ready for the next stage of their school journey. Year 7 have made huge leaps during the course of this year, and I am ready to see what more they can achieve next academic year.
Yours sincerely
